Stabford college tour/visit mom and 17 y/o daughter

Please suggest a hotel for three night stay convenient to Stanford U.

We will have a rental car, not intimidated to drive the highways or El Camino Real. Have not stayed in SFO area since 1997 when the Millbrae Best Western was clean and convenient. Trip dates 8/29-9/1.

Thank you.

If you are willing to spend the money, the Westin Palo Alto is very nice and near the university. If you want to save money, there are two motels, also convenient to Stanford, where my husband stays when up there on business: Town House Inn and Best Value Sky Ranch Inn. You can't beat the price, and both are clean, safe and comfortable. They are not fancy, but they're fine. Of the two, my husband prefers Town House.

Agree on the Westin:

Some of the other ones to look at:

1) Sheraton - perfect location to Stanford. You can take the free Marguerite shuttle to visit the campus. You can also walk to Cal Train station.

2) Palo Alto Garden Court - This hotel has a great location in downtown Palo Alto. Easy to walk to things, etc.

3) Stanford Terrace Inn: is a nice stay also close to the campus.

4)Dinah's Garden Hotel (Trader Vics is next door) is also a place to consider.

There is a Best Western also close to Stanford Shopping Mall...

one downside of that one is the noise as its on El Camino at a busy location. (others are also close to El Camino but have addressed the nosie issue.).

While at Stanford, be sure to take a Stanford Campus Tour. They are quite informative and quite good. Here's a web site with some information:

also check the Stanford University unoffical Guide for more informration:

Note: Most of thet parking on Stanford is pay....so bring quarters with you.! if you plan to park your car on campus. You will find a spot as its summer...in school year, its very hard. You will find a fair amount of construction and building going on at Stanford. So, just be aware of that when you are driving as there are detours, etc. to deal with.

Have a good trip - if you have any additional questions, please do let the forum know.
