Whale watching

Hello!

I have an urgent question. We were thinking of taking a whale watching tour from Moss Landing with Sea Goddess. Can one park anywhere near the harbour? Is it free or payable?

Thanks a million!

Yes there is parking at the harbor but it is not free. Bring exact change as you need to put it in an envelope. It is not manned. I don't know what the current cost is but the cruise company should be able to tell you.

Thank you!

I think it is 8$.

Can you recommend any (other) cruise company for whale watching?

Is it advisory to reserve seats (we come there in 2 weeks)?

Can the cruises be cancelled due to bad weather in end June?

Thank you!

There's free street parking on Sandholdt if you can find a spot and don't mind walking. Are you specifically looking for a cruise out of Moss Landing or is Monterey OK too? For weekends I would reserve in advance. On weekdays you can probably wait to see how the weather is. If you have a specific boat you want to take, I would also reserve in advance. If a cruise is canceled, it's usually due to high wind but cancellations aren't that common. Mornings tend to be calmer.

Hi. Monterey would be ok too. I came across this company

Sea Goddess Whale Watching http://www.tripadvisor.com/8145874?m=19907

And it seems decent. Good priced (45$ for 2 hours). And they leave from Moss Landing.

I am looking at a 9:30-11:30 a.m. boat trip.

Would you recommend something in Monterey?

If it were me, I would go with Sanctuary Cruises out of Moss Landing for whale watching.

I've used Sea Goddess, Princess Monterey and Monterey Bay Whale Watch. The latter two operate out of Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. The best naturalist we had was on MBWW but the others were fine too. It also depends on how long you want to be out. Some offer longer cruises which I prefer because I like being out on the ocean and don't get seasick.

Oh, nice to see someone with many past trips.

Now we are deciding between:

8:00 a.m. Sanctuary Cruises (2 hours)

9:30 a.m. Goddess (2 hours).

We are not seasick, but maybe 2-3 hours would be enough.

Are there better chances to see whales and other sea life earlier in the morning or is there no difference? We plan on making a reservation and hoping the trip will not be cancelled. We only have one day option (Tuesday morning on 26th June).

Mornings are better for whale watching. Usually less wind, lower swells. Just be prepared for marine layer and wear warm gear.

Morning cancellations are even rarer than afternoon cancellations. Sightings are down to luck, not time of day. Yes even on a nice day it can be feel very cold on the water.
