Base for three nights

Would Truro be a good base for three nights end of July with our two grandchikdren, ages 12 and 9? We want to minimize driving and maximize sights and activities, like experiencing the tidal changes, fossil cliffs, easy scenic hiking, history, seafood, etc. A place with a bit of town liveliness at the end of the day would be nice for the kids. Arriving on the Portland ferry, into Yarmouth, where we spend the first and last night of the trip. Thanks!

Not a bad idea as you are pretty centrally located there. Truro offers quite a bit for the size of the town. Tidal changes, fossil remains, and Halifax are all within a hr or so of Truro.

Truro is a commercial centre and to my mind not very scenic or exciting.

Much closer to the action would be Five Islands or Parrsboro and my favorite place Advocate Harbour. Check out this link for more Bay of Funding information:

Advocate Harbour has all you mention, except perhaps for town liveliness. It is a tiny village. The action centres around the general store, the tiny library and the campground. However you are right there to see the tides, walk the Driftwood beach, take short or long hikes in Cape Chignecto Park, eat great seafood at Wild Caraway, take boat tours or kayak in the Bay of Fundy. It is also close to the Fossil Cliffs. You want to plan your visit to the cliffs for low tide. The boat tours and kayaking generally start at high tide.

A tiny bit livelier would be Parrsboro but it is a bit further from the other things.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Monctonguy. We are a bit late in booking, and now finding Truro motels pretty full for our dates.. Have just booked a place in Wolfville. It sounds equally nice.

Wolfville is a great small town that meets everything on your list. Close to the Bay of Fundy, Scots Bay is a great beach for rockhounding. I haven't been to this Fossil museum for a long time, but it's very handy to Wolfville.

My grandchildren (as well as big children) always enjoyed Oaklawn Zoo in Aylesford which is aprox a half-hour drive from Wolfville. Feeding time is a very interesting time to visit,
