Kids activities?

We're planning an early May trip via AMTRAK for a couple nights in Glenwood Springs and have a 5 and 3 yo. What types of kid friendly things are there to do in the area? Only key is we won't be renting a car so would have to travel by foot or shuttle.

Also, are there a lot of small shops downtown to visit?

Thanks!

Ride Glenwood is the shuttle bus that services Glenwood Springs.

You should have no problem finding fun things to do with your 3 and 5 year old.

Note they have a special early season trip for toddlers. It might be chilly so ask about wetsuits.

Yes, there are shops to visit and the hot springs pool for a warm soak.

Definitely hit the big, hot pool.

Glenwood springx isn't very large so you can walk around downtown and to the pool. Many of the hotels are near the train station, but there are a few on the west side of town that aren't walkable. There are some shops in the downtown area.

The above post give you some good info. In addition, I highly recommend taking the RFTA bus to Aspen or Snowmass Village for some fun. Aspen has an incredible Rec Center. They have an indoor pool that also has a "lazy river" and lots of play areas. You can check the bus schedule at RFTA.com or check with your hotel. Discounted bus "punch" cards can be purchased at the local grocery stores. The use to be punch cards, they are now plastic cards similar to debit or credit cards.

www.glenwoodcaverns.com mentioned above and the Hot Springs Pool www.hotspringspool.com they're very close to each other, the hot springs pool across from the Amtrak station and Glenwood Caverns around the corner. Down the main drag a little further is a great motel for the family and that's Cedar Lodge: www.cedarlodgemotel.net

For dining right by the Amtrak station too is Glenwood Canyon Brewing Co. The kids will get their meals served on a souvenir frisbee. The food is excellent. http://glenwoodcanyon.com/

There's also a railroad museum right there to peruse too it's open a few days a week, so check for that. http://www.glenwoodrailroadmuseum.org/

Thanks for all the suggestions. Given that we'll be arriving Sat afternoon and departing on Monday, are the shops downtown open on a Sunday or is everything pretty much closed?
