Hi.

To me the beach is basically all the same in front of the boardwalk. You have access to the boardwalk eats while on the beach & the beach chair/umbrella rentals. Parking is metered or by permit. No bathhouses or changing rooms, but a few foot sprinklers and shower heads at the edge of the boardwalk.

For a beach away from the boardwalk, I would recommend Deauville Beach, the Delaware seashore state parks or cape henlopen state park in Lewes. I actually like the CHSP in lewes the best for beaches as they have a bath house and concessions; waves and undertow are not as strong either. Lewes Beaches 1 & 2, just off Savannah Rd (behind the DQ) in Lewes are great for toddlers since it is a bay beach with little to no waves. There is a concession stand and bathhouse here too. Plus you can watch the ferry cruise in and out of port all day from the beach.

There are a few sections of beach that are considered "gay beaches". Poodle Beach, which is around Queen Street & the Boardwalk--on the South Side of town is one that is popular with the men. Gordon's Pond by North Shores is popular with the women. Poodle Beach will require either metered OR parking pass parking. Gordons Pond has its own parking lot.

Hope this helps some.

DF gave a good summary. So it depends on what you are looking for. Also, we change our beach destination depending on the wind. If there's a strong wind from the west, beach tends to be buggy (biting flies), so we might go to the bay side instead. If it's strong wind from east, can be chilly depending on air and water temps.

By the way, Gordon's Pond is my favorite. If we don't go there, then we usually go to Tower Road Bayside which is great for people with mobility issues and small children because there is no dune, no waves, very shallow and you park only steps from the beach.

If you walk toward Dewey, there are few people but less amenities. If you are in front of a large condo, you'll be in the shade sooner. We like to move away from the main street entrance and find something in between so we can run back for snacks. There is a bath house near Funland if you want to be near a public rest room.
