Okay, the first one is Schooner Wharf (obviously).
The second one, I'm not so sure, but I think it is the Sculpture Garden right outside Mallory Square. Nice shot.
#2....don't know but nice shot!
# 1 SWB
#2 Key West Historic Memorial Sculpture Garden in Mallory Square
#2 looks like wherever it was that DW were locked in one evening after we got off the gambling boat after a monsoon. We wandered into a community that night and couldn't get out for a long, long time until we finally found the gate. We walked and walked. We finally made our way out and into a bar soaking wet. That bar ended up being The Green Parrot and that was our first visit there.
Sorry for the rambling, but that fence looks like the fence surrounding that community.
Artemus---Gambling boat? What gambling boat? I didn't think there was a gambling boat in Key West. Vacationobessessed mentioned something about seeing a (possible) casino boat in her trip report also. Is there a gambling boat that goes out of Key West?
It was about five years ago when we went out on the gambling boat. I don't know if it still goes out or not. I have a feeling it doesn't. It was in pretty bad shape when we went.
BTW, Captain Tony was on the boat that night celebrating his birthday.
There've been several gambling boats in Key West over the years. The first one I remember from the early nineties was Maximilian. It was VERY fancy, and in fact looked like a miniature casino inside. Wild carpet, two decks of table and machine gambling, alcohol and food on the way out to the reef. Next time we went to Key West I think it was gone...or maybe we went out on it once more.
I can think of at least two additional ones...one is still (I think) stuck out in the middle of nowhere since Wilma. The one before it had more than one owner - I didn't go out on either of those, but my husband did.
One of them sank in the harbor (Atlantic X), another one got the owner killed (Suncruz) and another has the owner without a gambling license for various crimes. They just don't seem to work here. The very last one (Dixie Duck) I had to drive into KW because the capt got loaded and I told the crew I had a CG license and could handle the boat, just show me who works the lines.
I put out #1 because it took *me* a while to recognize the SWB in the daylight. It looks clean then. 8-)
#2 is through the gates of the smallcemetary looking across the dining garden and to the side of El Meson de Pepe.
Thos gambling boats come and go in Key West. There's one unused one moored in the harbor right now. They simply don't catch on.
I realize this is off the topic, but I would like to find out if there is gambling boat running or will be running Aug 28-Sept 2. Does anyone know or know how I can find out?
