Day trip on December 29

Hi,

We are planning to visit Sanibel Island for a day trip on December 29. We would like to start the day early to get the whole day.we are still debating whether to stay at Naples the previous night or at Fort Myers, any suggestions?

We are traveling with 2 boys 12 years and 9 years old, and planning to do the tram ride at J.N Ding darling national wildlife refuge and going for Sanibel thriller during the day and then head towards Captiva beach to catch the sunset, and early dinner and drive back to Fort Myers.

Do you think this is realistically possible? Please advice.

Thanks a bunch.

Fort Myer's would definitely be closer and give you quicker access to Sanibel. If you are just looking for a place to sleep the night before, there is a Residence Inn and a La Quinta, both on Summerlin, which would be about 10 minutes from Sanibel.

Morning tram tours are at 10 and 11:30. I would make a reservation for the 10 a.m. one. You could have lunch at Gramma Dot's on the Marina, which is where you will catch the Thriller. (Also make reservations!) I think they have a 1 p.m. outing but you need to call. After the Thriller, you might drive to Lighthouse Beach (5 minutes away) to check out that area, the fishing pier and look for a few shells. Then stop at Pinocchios for amazing ice cream!

Head up to Captiva and "gawk" at all the mansions along Captiva Drive. Parking can be tricky in Captiva. You can see if McCarthy's marina has spots available. Easy walk to the beach from there. You can also park at the Mucky Duck but you have to eat there. The beach is a great place to watch the sunset but be prepared and bring some Deep Woods Off or some sort of bug repellent if it isn't really breezy. Noseeums love sunset!

We were very disappointed, however, in the food at Mucky Duck in November. YMMV.

Zinfindel just nailed it for advice. :-)

With a 9 & 12 year old, you really need to eat at the Bubble Room. Think TGIF Fridays on speed as far as decor. There will be a line after sunset. Do not get horderves! Save room for CAKE.
