There's quite a bit to do around Opelousas. It's only about 25 miles from Lafayette, for example. What days of the week will you be there and what types of things do you enjoy doing?

We will be there Thurs-Sat.

We like all things, the boys will

be teaching pole vault at school

Thur/Fri during day. We will want

to do something during day and later.

Opelousas is an historic city and it has its share of great restaurants. My favorite is the Palace Cafe, on West Landry St. If you'll stop by the visitor's center, they'll give you a map for a walking tour of the downtown area. Jim Bowie was a resident of Opelousas and the Jim Bowie Museum is located in the Visitor's Center.

Tony Chachere's main plant is in Opelousas. They do offer tours, but they're by appointment only.

Lafayette is about 25 miles south or Opelousas, and there are many things to do there. If you're interested in Cajun culture, plan on spending 1/2 day at Vermillionville. http://www.vermilionville.org/

I suggest that you plan on having dinner at Randol's, in Lafayette, one night. They have live Cajun music every night, and it's a fun place.

One must-do is the Zydeco breakfast at Cafe des Amis in Breaux Bridge on Saturday morning. You'll need to get there early. The doors open at 7:30 and it's always crowded, but it's worth missing a few extra hours of sleep, and it's something you'll be talking about for a long time.
