I am not sure who may have spent time in Chatham in December but this is the kind of thing that the concierge should be able to help you with. CBI isn't cheap even in December so might as well use all the services available. There will be places open but it will be limited. Also, restaurants can come and go so last years may not be open this year.Edited: 14 October 2010, 08:33
Chatham will be decorated for Christmas in early December and the village center along Main Street will look like a Currier and Ives print. It'll be beautiful. Everything will be open in downtown Chatham; they celebrate Christmas in a big way. Lucky you to stay at Chatham Bars Inn in the days leading up to the holidays!
In Chatham: The Impudent Oyster is a short drive from CBI and is a great choice. The Squire, a Chatham institution, hasn't been so great the last few times we've gone, unfortunately, so I can't recommend it here. There's another restaurant, right above Carmine's Pizza, that has been getting consistently good reviews, Vinings Bistro:
For really good, old school, steak, chops, surf and turf meals head to Pate's on rte. 28 toward S. Chatham. Delmar's, also on 28 toward S. Chatham is wonderful. The best restaurant in Chatham and one of the best on the Cape is Pisces but will be closed during your stay. If you head to Dennisport you'll be able to enjoy Ocean House, great setting and lovely food:
