Fisherman's Wharf Sold to Developer

After years of negotiations with prospective purchasers, Fisherman’s Wharf, also know as Cabral’s Wharf, in Provincetown has been sold to a developer from Newburyport who plans to build a boutique hotel, boat basin and expand the marina to accommodate large yachts. Work is scheduled to begin soon but details are unavailable. The new owners do have a good record with similar projects including Charlestown Marina and Boston Yacht Haven and Marina. They also manage Fan Pier Marina.

This will certainly change the look of the harbor and give the whole area a boost.

The dock area in question was one of the last remaining quaint spots on the waterfront. You could always feel the history of the fishing families even though, as you say, the reality of P-town has become something very different over the last 30 years. Still....I'll have to take a trip down to the dock soon, before they start tearing it apart!

I do see your point. Be sure to take a few photos for posterity. It is probably not the ideal spot for even a small hotel but times change. At one time there were dozens of wharfs from Commercial Street out into the bay. At least the new owners are going to rebuilt the wharf and provide room for more small boats too.

There still are some working fishing boats on the left side of MacMillan (with the right side devoted to tourist fishing, whale watching, etc.).

Maybe this will help Provincetown be more of a destination in the off-season?

We can always hope...but a town that has few full time residents finds it difficult to create a sustainable economy.

Well, cruise ship stops will help the economy right along.
