Restaurant suggestions.

We are taking a family trip near Petoskey, but my husband and I are taking a little day trip to Traverse City to do the wine trail and want to have a nice dinner out afterwards. Any suggestions?

So many restaurants, so little time...

First some questions: when you say "the wine trail" I'm not quite sure what you mean. There are a LOT of wineries in the TC area, so, if you only have a day, you may want to concentrate on the Mission peninsula, or selected ones on the Leelanau side. Quite simply, you can't do all of them in one day (and still stay standing).

Second, I'm not sure if you're looking for something casual, or since it's just you and your husband, something more romantic or relaxed. Traverse offers so many options, that I'll start with a selected few. You'll likely need reservations for all of these. All are in TC (but there a lot of other good selections just outside of town as well). So if you want some ideas further afield, please advise.

If you're "wine-ing" on the Mission side, then end up at The Boathouse. Superb food, often coupled with a dazzling sunset view.

If you make it back into town by dinner time, perhaps considering ending your wine tour at Left Foot Charley's or Black Star Farms out at the Commons and then having dinner at Trattoria Stella nearly next door. The ambiance there is very cool, given that the buildings at the Commons (which include the restaurant) used to be the state mental health hospital. It's a gorgeous, if ongoing, renovation of a stunning complex of buildings.

Alternately, if you end up in downtown TC, I'd suggest either Amical (sort of "rustic french" is how I'd describe it), or Red Ginger (sushi and other fare). But again, lots of options exist there.

That's just a few top-of-mind ideas. Post a few more details of what you're looking for, and perhaps I can help you out further...

Ditto all the previous posts. We loved Apache and Jolly Pumpkin. JP is the one stop my husband is insisting we go back to on our upcoming trip. We have also enjoyed TraVino by the casino and Poppycock's for lunch.
