How to spend an afternoon

I will be in Minneapolis on a Thursday afternoon, from approx noon to 4pm or 5pm, before I need to drive north to see family. I will have a car. Any suggestions on how to fill the time for two adults? Good restaurant on the river? Parks or nature are most interesting to me, not museums. Definitely not Mall of America, but could be interested in unique local shops.

For me, for 4 hours - I’d just stick to 1 or 2 things - or maybe just #3 above. That would be peaceful and chill.

I think you should do option 1 from the first post above. Great views of the Mississippi River and the dam from this area. There is a short hiking loop that basically brings you to all of these attractions and also brings you by a bunch of restaurants on the east side of the river. You can also walk around downtown Minneapolis after you are done checking out the river.

Finally, there is a big road construction project just south of Minneapolis on I-35W so make sure you check traffic before driving into Minneapolis.

Minnehaha Park and Falls. Have lunch at SeaSalt, in the park.
