Must see and do...and weather

Coming to Lake Placid next weekend. Plan on going to the Ausable Chasm, maybe the caves and would like to do some hiking. Is there any not to miss scenery or things to do in this area? Also what can we expect weather wise at this time of year?

Is everything open for the season or is it still too early for some places? Any and all help is appreciated :)

Many things are still not fully open. The road to the top of Whiteface suppose to be open May 21st. Gondola won't be running until some time in the end of June. Au Sable Chasm is always there but floating trips are not available now, the same goes for many other tours in the chasm. The cave tour won't happen for a while. In my opinion, there is not much of a cave but tourists like it. This is a great time for independent travelers. You can hike in Au Sable Chasm and as you know there are endless trails around Lake Placid, depends what hikes you want to hike. Weather? Could be almost anything. Be prepared. Scenery is everywhere. Take drive from lake Placid to Cascade Lake, to Wilmington, Jay, E-town Tupper Lake, Paul Smith, go on back roads to Bloomingdale, Silver Lake, Paul Smith. So many scenic routes. Your options are unlimited. Stop at the Visitor Center in Lake Placid and maybe Paul Smith Interpretive Visitor Center. Get a good map and explore
