My husband and I are celebrating our 3rd anniversary the 1st week in March (both of us are in our 50's) and are journeying to the Hudson River Valley to the Shawangunk Wine Trail for some sweet wine tasting... not too far of a drive from our South Jersey home. We will be journeying to wineries from Warwick up to New Paltz.
Since we don't know the area, we would love your locals advice on...
- Where to stay (something nice but not the Ritz). A higher end chain is good or a lovely B&B with large size rooms (no claustrophobic rooms with tiny beds). Queen or king needed with private bathrooms.
- Nice restaurants with an engaging atmosphere - something interactive and fun rather than uppity and hoity toity. Great plentiful food with friendly servers and nice views are wonderful. Where do the locals go?
- A suggestion for Sunday brunch would be fabulous.
- Finally... what else is there to do other than the wineries? (No historical or museums or winter sports/hiking.) Quaint towns, shopping, interesting places to see in the winter.
Would love to hear your "must sees, must do's, must tries."
Thanks for whatever you can share.
