Hiking Minnewaska Questions

Hi All,

Looking for some advice on hiking trails in the Minnewaska area. We are interested in the best views and scenery that we can enjoy on a hike of about six miles....perhaps a bit longer.

I have hiked around Lake Minnewaska and enjoyed that very much....is there a good trail that veers off and returns to that area with beautiful views? Or something even prettier that the Lake Minnewaska area? We are in good shape but not looking for anything too intense.

I would very much appreciate some guidance.

Thank you!!

Just be aware that Mohonk is quite pricey if you are going to hike. At Minnewaska you can hike to Gertrude's Nose (I have some pictures posted here: http://www.pbase.com/pudgy_groundhog/fall_minnewaska). A shorter hike is to Millbrook Mountain with some views.

A great alternative is Sam's Point Preserve, especially in the fall when the huckleberry bushes are a fiery red. If you can manage eight miles, it is worth it to do the full loop (it's not a hard eight miles - not a lot of elevation gain).
