Deep Creek nat'l park Camping & Tubing

I'm planning to come this weekend for tent camping in Nat'l park & tubing on the river there.

Has anyone been lately that can comment on the waterlevel & conditions of the park? I noticed a warning on the park website about closed trails, etc.

I know it's 1st come first served on the river side spots, but just curious how busy to expect.

Also - Was it comfortable at night? or too hot for tent camping?

thanks!

We're getting some rain this week so the water level should be great for this weekend. We have no road closures on the NC side of the park. The sites directly on Deep Creek are group camping and can be reserved. They are not that expensive so you might just do it if you can get one of them. Other sites are fine though. The temps this weekend should be highs around 80-82 and lows of around 62. It's still nice at night.

Does the campground fill up on week-ends? We are planning on getting there on Saturday August 19th and just wondering if we should make reservations first.

Since that is Solar Eclipse Weekend, and Bryson City is in the path of totality, you will probably have a hard time getting a spot. Our lodging is pretty close to capacity right now for that weekend and we are expecting an even larger influx for Monday the 21st for the eclipse. Traffic will be tough.

If you are planning on staying somewhere for the eclipse, check out the Great Smoky Mountain National Park website. Under search type Solar Eclipse. There will be a list of other places that are not too far away. Getting a place to stay will be very difficult. Hotel prices are sky high so a lot of people will try to camp.

Good Luck
