i was wondering i am coming down to the outer banks for vacation i have been comming down now for 8 years. Are the waters safe from sharks i have always boogie boarded from when i was a teen. Now me and my 12 year old boogie board togeather, we are in the water sometimes for 6 hours usally from noon til 6pm if the waves are good. does this pose a problem? I know no one can stop a attack and they are usally rare ,but is the risk higher this year or is it just the medea making it worse then it is? Thank you

The media is not making anything worse. They are only reporting the attacks that have happened.

It is highly unusual to have this many attacks on our coast, so just be cautious if you decide to boogie board. Several of these attacks have happened in 3 feet of water.

I can't recall ever hearing about a shark attack anywhere north of Oregon Inlet here on the Outer Banks before. Could it happen? Yes. I would not be out there at 6pm though as fish feed near that time of day. Are you more exposed to death driving here? You bet you are.
