Can anyone tell me how you pronounce Calne please?
So a thread from 2014 has been brought to life! ;-p
Okay then, how do you pronounce Frome, Keynsham and Devizes?
I always got them wrong when I first moved down to that part of the world! ;-)
Everybody over the age of 60 can pronounce and, more importantly, spell Keynsham. That's K..E..Y..N.....
...........And we remember Horace Batchelor.
Horace Batchelor was a member of the Harington Club in Bath, of which I am a current member: he made a fortune from his 'infradraw', his house is the large white place on the right about 400 yards out of Saltford going towards Bristol. He used to say 'I have winners every week': my Dad joined up for a few weeks, then he thought 'if thousands are doing this, of course he has winners every week'.
Frome was originally spelt Froome, I believe: I went to an Ian Mclagan gig there a few years back, he kept taking the p*ss out of the locals for mispronouning it ('it should be Frohm').
The original name for Devizes was THE Devizes.
Boom boom !!
Congratulations on reopening an 18 month old thread. ;-)
