Things to do around jarvis bay

My husband our 10month baby and I will be in Jarvis bay for a week end of Jan. We were thinking of a day trip to mix it up a little. Maybe even go stay somewhere else for a night.

Any suggestions of day trips or places to vissit for a night. Nothing too far away as baby doesnt enjoy travelling for more than 4 hours.

Thank you

Jervis Bay (pronounced Jervis - not Jarvis) - is a low key spot with mainly water activities going on. If you just have a weekend, then don't move around, just stay put.

You can do Dolphin Watch cruises from Huskisson, there is a fun family carnival on in Huskisson until the end of January, markets to visit and white sandy beaches to swim in. This link should help

Oh, sorry I see you're there for a week. Do you have a rental car or are you relying on public transportation (which is spotty at the best of times in JB).

You could head down to Bateman's Bay and visit Mogo Zoo or Birdland.

About 20 minutes away is Nowra and it has great cafes and shopping as well as a lovely zoo right on the river.

You can visit Kiama, Berry, Kangaroo Valley, Bowral, Berrima and Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk at Robertson, all as day trips and possibly a few all in one day. If you want to stay overnight, maybe stay in Bowral.

I would keep going south towards Eden (but not all that way), look at the pretty villages on the way down. Take lunch at the fishermans coop in Ullladulla.

Mollymook is also lovely.

I'm not a fan of Batemans Bay...overbuilt and too many suburbans from Canberra.

You could do a nice day trip up to historic Braidwood, have lunch or coffee, walk around the town and perhaps a picnic at the Warri bridge or Bombay bridge on the banks of the Shoalhaven.

Look around the shops etc at Milton - lots of good historical stuff plus cafes, then pop into Mollymook.

The dolphin cruise at Jervis Bay is fantastic.

Kangaroo Valley is notoriously too hot or too cold. Currently too hot. We have been having days near 40c, nights not much under 30. Of course by the end of the month it may be cold and wet.

If you would like a journey into nature, go down the Princes Highway to Twelve Mile Rd, it comes upon you on the right a bit suddenly. Go up Twelve Mile Rd to the Granite Falls walking track - google maps will find that. It's not a long or difficult walk.

In addition to a pleasant walk to the falls, you can go a little further up Twelve Mile Rd to George Boyd Lookout, below which is a rainforest walk, which may not suit walking with the baby. But from the lookout you have a view a long way to the south.

Please check the fire situation

before venturing into the wild this summer.

From there back to the highway and lots of fancy eats in Milton. As too many others know.

You will of course find lots of nice places for tiny tots on Jervis Bay. Please don't doubt that. Look at the map and count the beaches.

Families take tiny tots on the sandy shallows at the mouth of Moona Moona Creek.

Orion beach Vincentia is special, known to few.

Greenfields Beach (get a barbecue by 9am, for breakfast of pancakes and bacon. All sorts of people arriving fretting for a bbq by 10.30. Take the bocce with you. The beach is wonderful, the view splendid.

Kangaroos available at dusk driving quietly along Parnell Rd Tomerong - shortest distance from you of moderately reliable roos.

For kangaroos and wallabies that will hustle you try Pebbly Beach, but be careful there may be ticks on them and on the ground.

The zoo mentioned by another is here:

For other coastal pleasures:

Swan Lake (Swanhaven) via Sussex Inlet, nice wading for small child.

Bendalong offers great beauty and a lovely small sandy beach.
