What to do in the Scranton PA area weekend of July 30, 2016

My wife and I will be in Scranton from July 28-31. We are flying in to go to the Disturbed concert at the pavilion. It is a college graduation present for her. In the meantime we are going to have half the day Friday, all day Saturday and part of Sunday to find something to do in the area.

We are looking for restaurants that are exclusive to the area. That gets hard anymore.

We are also looking for something unique to do such as maybe a history of the area, any Amish things in the area? Sometimes exclusive to the area. Wife has bursitis in the hips so stairs are out of the question.

We are in our 40's.

Coal Mine Tour (no stairs; you take an mine car down).

Steamtown Historic Site (steam locomotives/train rides).

Nearby Old Forge is known for its pizza (calls itself "Pizza Capital of the World").

I will take note of these.

Is there anything in the surrounding towns as well?

Anything Amish is 80+ miles to the south. Tunkhannock viaduct in Nicholson is 20 miles north.

Not sure how far from the Scranton area you want to venture. Jim Thorpe is a little over an hour from Scranton. It's a quaint small town with shops & restaurants and the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway.

Also about an hour away is Eckley Miner's Village Museum in Weatherly.

Check out Nay Aug Park. It's very pretty and if it's really hot out you can swim in the pool and just relax

Steamtown Historical Site and the trains is interesting

Inside the Radisson Hotel lobby is cool to check out, it use to be a train station ( Radisson Lackawanna Station)
