Nashville New Years Eve 2011-2012

We are going to be in Nashville for New Years Eve. What should we do to celebrate New Year? We are a middle aged couple with no children who like country and rock music.

Nashville has a great NY celebration downtown New Years Eve so you are in for a real treat -it is popular and draws bigger crowds every year so book early for best places if you want to stay near the downtown event. Weather can be nice or cold and wet-even the rare snow/ice- so come prepared. The Music City bowl football game is often around that time too so that fills hotels too. It is still early so you should monitor bookings for the usual venues for who is playing where-there will probably be a big name act at the huge Bridgestone arena-the biggest venue downtown; the historic Ryman downtown will have several shows while you are here-so visit their site frequently to see who is booked-same with Grand Ole Opry shows there. During the day you can visit the Country Music Hall of Fame that is downtown, tour the Ryman, historic Studio B on Music Row-if you like art museums there is the Frist downtown and some other galleries down there; as well as the Parthenon -a full size replica with great permanent and special exhibits-it is not too far-just a short drive out to the West End. For a fun bus tour check out the Nash-Trash bus tour or there are other more traditional ones. Go to the Nashville Visitors site-they offer a combo ticket to multiple top attractions that is cheaper than buying the admission tickets separately if you are interested in enough of the places listed. The Mercy Lounge, Station Inn, Exit/In are great music venues-check out their acts. The Bluebird Cafe is top spot to listen to up and coming talent in the smaller venue-may need reservations for some spots depending on the dates and times. The Loveless Cafe [great for famous biscuits and traditional southern breakfasts and other meals too] now has a music barn behind the cafe-check out their site for what is happening there-Wednesday nights shows-often great bluegrass. There should be lots going on for you to find more to do than you will have time!

Thanks for all the great information. We have booked into the Hilton Nashville Downtown so hopefully it will be central to all the action.

Our favorite new years celebration is also downtown. We love to get reservations at either Virago or Sambuca and have a late dinner then head down (pending weather) to the shows.

Also if you like rock the Cannery Ballroom, Mercy Lounge or Exit Inn are all great places that have a variety of live music.

Check out the Nashville Scene or Metromix closer to the date. Also last year we stayed in the loop of happenings on the yelp site but you never know!

I love the Hilton and yes its close to everything. There is a parking charge that will be added on to your total bill so just be ready for that...it is similar to anywhere else downtown.

Thanks for the information. We do like rock so one of the locations you mentioned may be the way to go. We will have a look at the Nashville Scene or Metromix closer to the date.

The Hilton is a good location, nice hotel too. You will be able to walk to the bars and the scenes if they dont have a shuttle or a very short cab ride...

Also Cadillac Ranch is a fun bar, really big inside multiple bars in it. McFaddens gets a little rowdy, younger crowd. The honky tonk bars are all on broadway, those are always fun! Its just fun walking up and down 2nd ave and people watching! Cant go wrong! But NYE it will be crowded!!!!

Thanks for the that. Sounds like we have chosen the right city to be in for NYE. What is the dress code for places on NYE? Sounds like we might need to ensure we have outfits that let us do a lot of walking.

The best bar is the one you're at. It will be crowded, if the weather is good people will be hanging around on the sidewalks, checking out the crowds atother venues.

Dress is casual, no telling if it will rain, snow, or be 60 degrees outside.

Nashville is casual, all the way around. Dress for the weather. Blue jeans are the norm everywhere! I second hitting the lower Broad honkey tonks (Tootsies, Robert's, etc.). You'll easily fill up your NYE downtown.
