Things to do in Killington - mid Sept with kids

Hi,

My husband is doing a race in Killington mid Sept. We are heading up from Boston. What are some things nearby to do with kids ages 4 and 7? Also what would the weather be like around this time? TIA Doan

The Mountain Coaster at Killington looks fun. Plenty of hiking in the area. VINS (Vermont institute of Natural Science) in Quechee is a great place. Hike down into Quechee Gorge. Billings Farm & Museum in Woodstock.

I saw Woodstock and it looks like a quaint cute town to visit. I will definitely look up Quechee and Mountain Coaster. Thanks.

My kids loved Billings Farm and Museum. We have also visited Crowley Cheese Factory, Calvin Coolidge Historic Homestead and hiked the Quechee Gorge.

Long Trail Brewery for dinner is a must while you are in the area !

All great suggestions and sure to please! I always like to provide a few rainy day suggestions as well just in case :)....

The Vermont Country Store in Weston is lots of fun for both children and adults. Gillinghams Country Store is in Woodstock if you end up in that area though not as good as VCS.

If you're willing to drive a little (nothing close in VT but driving is very low key and pretty), the Montshire Science Museum in Norwich is great hands on museum and perfect for children your age.

We also will go bowling in Rutland as another rainy day option. The bowling alley has bumpers for kids.

You also asked about the weather. I would suggest sweatshirts/sweater/light coats and probably long pants. Although you might get lucky during the day, still likely to get colder at night. Tomorrow going into the 30s at night which is unusually cold for August!

Also, if you are up for a ~1 hour drive, you can check out the Ben & Jerry's factory tour, if that's something you would be really interested in. But generally, I think the Woodstock area recommendations would be best.

IMHO, the B&Js tour is lackluster, and not worth a 2 hr roundtrip drive. Plenty of better things to see & do in the area.

Talk to Anne and Josh @ the Trailside Inn. They are superb hosts, part of the Spartan scene and super knowledgeable about the area.
