Mukilteo-Clinton Ferry

My husband and I are trying to decide whether to stay a night on Camano or Whidbey as we are passing through the area from the north heading toward Ashford; and wondered if we did stay on Whidbey (sounds a bit more scenic) would the wait times for the Clinton ferry be worth it? It will be the end of July. Thanks much!

Camano is a residential more than scenic island and requires a detour. Whidbey does indeed have much more to offer as you apparently know. Don't worry too much about waiting in line for the ferry; just go with the proverbial flow. A Sunday evening ferry would be the most crowded, so skip Sunday if you can, but really, enjoy the island, bring beverages and snacks as you explore.

The Whidbey Ferry (from Mulkiteo to Clinton) runs every half hour, so it's pretty easy to catch. Busiest times are Friday afternoons to early evening and Sunday afternoon to evening. Obviously holidays, holiday weekends or the end of holiday periods are the worst - (sometimes as long as 2-3 hrs waits) but other times, you'll be fine. About two weekends ago we left Sunday early evening from Whidbey Island, and drove right on to the ferry.

If you are coming from the north, you may want to drive onto Whidbey Island via Deception Pass on the North End, then take the ferry back to the mainland from the South End of Whidbey. Whidbey is 40 miles long.

There are many more accomodations on Whidbey than Camano.

Appreciate your responses and we are set.....finally. We are staying a night at Captain Whidbey Inn and I have found some good reviews of resaurants in that area in addition to the well written things to do on the island by both of you and from our previous topic discussions; thanks again!
