2 days in Lewisburg- Need Advice

I am stopping in Lewisburg on a road trip to Memphis. I am arriving around 3pm the first day. My thought was to walk around downtown to see the church, cemetery and shops with dinner at Hill &Holler and listen to music at the Irish Bar. On the next full day, I was thinking of stopping at the bean for coffee, then go to Greenbrier Resort to do the bunker tour and rent bikes there to do the trail ride or possible learn to do the clay skeet shooting. For dinner, I was thinking of the Livery and then Asylum for a drink.

Am I missing anything- would you suggest anything different? I saw the lost caverns but I am not crazy about tight enclosures and crawling through areas so I decided to skip. Also, the rental suggests you can walk to downtown- is it generally safe to do that in the N Court area?

Thanks!

Re: Lost World Caverns...there is no crawling involved at all. You are walking and standing upright the whole way thru. It is "cavernous"...big and wide with very high "ceilings". No "tight enclosures" either. It is a cavern..not a cave. Big difference. Up to you, but you are missing out on something pretty cool in the area.

Maybe head up 219 north to Beartown St. Park. Small but picturesque park.

A lot of the shops in downtown Lewisburg close at 5, and pretty much all of them are worth checking out. Make sure you have time to do this. Check out The General Lewis Inn. Historic inn at the top of Washington St. (the "main" street) Pretty sure you can have a meal there without being a guest. Maybe breakfast for you? There are a couple of really good bakeries in Lewisburg for a snack/pastry/meal.

N. Court area...yes safe. It is a compact little town. Are you staying in an airbnb?

Have a great visit. I love Lewisburg!

"It is a cavern..not a cave."

I'm not sure when the name changed, but Lost World Caverns was originally called Grapevine Cave. Maybe it was when it was commercialized, since the difference between a cavern and a cave is often the admission charge. The names of natural holes in the ground that haven't been commercialized are much more likely to be something or other cave instead of something or other cavern.

There's an option for a wild cave tour that includes a bunch of passages, some of which are fairly narrow or low, but the part of the cave seen on the commercial tour is quite spacious. It's basically one large room (perhaps that's the reason for beachlady's description of it as a cavern), and won't require any squeezing through tight spots. Other than the wild cave tours offered at some commercial caves, I doubt that any commercial tour requires crawling. I can't promise you'd enjoy a visit, but it will definitely be different than what you're apparently envisioning.

If your road trip will bring you through the Shenandoah Valley and you think you might try visiting a (spacious) cave, Luray Caverns is a very good choice. Most of the tour is through one large room, and almost the entire cave is covered in formations.

Other than considering a cave tour I think the likely things have been covered. Besides the bakeries, Food & Friends has some good chocolates, including great truffles.

If the weather allows it, one of the best things to do while visiting Lewisburg is to take a walk on the Greenbrier River Trail. It's beautiful. Also Beartown, Droop Mountain but they are North of town a bit. As for dining, The Livery is good but very $$$. A less expensive option is Landings Restaurant at the airport. Or if you are wanting to stay downtown, the Stardust Cafe is very good. Hill & Holler is a must.

Both lost world caverns and organ cave are worth the visit. If Greenbrier Valley Theatre has a show running, I highly recommend going! The North House museum is cool and doesn't take much time. I also suggest dinner at food and friends downtown. It's a very safe town. I always felt comfortable there!

Previous posts suggest things in Pocahontas County, I totally agree! It is beautiful there!

Is the downtown area of Lewisburg safe to walk if by yourself? Also, how far is the Holliday Inn Express from downtown Lewisburg. I will be coming in by train and will not be renting a car.

Doris, yes very safe. It's a small area too. Very nice. Holiday Inn Express is about 1.5 miles out of town. Can't walk it. Busy road, no sidewalk in most places along that road. How are you getting to Lewisburg from the train station. You know it is in White Sulphur Springs...about 9 miles from Lewisburg, right? You can taxi or Uber.

What brings you to this area?

Oh...and General Lewis Inn is a very nice Inn right in the middle of Lewisburg. Maybe look at staying there. More convenient.
