Dells in mid October

Hi,

Thinking about visiting Dells in mid October with 3 /all @ 20yrs old/ kids/. Any interesting activities besides water parks at that time? Maybe around Dells - some hiking, etc?

Any suggestions?

Thank you

I just checked - and looks like Dells boat tours are still operating /till November/. That's good news.

We did it once but it was in August a few years ago. It would be nice to do it again with all the fall colors around...

Thank you @2 and @3. That's very good suggestions. Devil's Lake will be certainly up on our schedule. I will also have to look at Mirror Lake. Just wondering if we should do both places or Devil's only or Mirror only? Are they similar in what they have to offer - hiking trails, waterfalls, etc?

I'll have to look at the zipline as well. Few years ago we did ClimbWorks @ Gatlinburg area /but in August/. That was really great!

The fall colors are generally peaking around mid October and the weather can be crisp, but often dry and really nice. Any outdoor activities will be good. Besides hiking there are some great bike trails near the Dells. Not sure where you can rent them, but if you are interested look into it. You might also be able to rent canoes on the Wisconsin River.

One note, you will need to purchase a state park sticker for Devils Lake and Mirror Lake, so you might consider visiting them both in one day. Although there are other nice hiking areas too like Parfrey's Glen and Gibraltar Rock park. Gibralter Rock is south of Devils Lake and there is a free ferry that crosses the Wisconsin River at Merrimac, pretty unique for this part of the country.

This has not been stated, but I hope you know it will be too cold for swimming, so you need to book one of the large hotels with an indoor water park if you want any of that activity.

Yes, I would recommend doing Devil's Lake if you are up for a mild hike. Very unique area for the midwest. The boat tour could be fun, but it is a gamble what the weather will be like.

At least we have some options, and since we like hiking, looks like we might get a lot of that. Might look into biking as well.

Thank you all for your helpful info.

One of the best things to do in the Dells off-season is VR Universe - Virtual Reality Arcade. They have a great selection of VR games that can be played in single player, multi-player or VS mode plus you will get a great workout as the games are with full body control. You can choose from archery, dodge ball, paint ball, basket ball, mini-golf, light saber training, space gun shooting, zombie apocalypse survival, underwater adventure, battleship and many more. They even have a racing car simulator. It's a lot of fun and they are very reasonably priced. They also have group discounts for 4 people and up.

Note that Parfrey's Glen also requires the state park sticker.

Thank you for all your ideas! We'll be there for 5 nights and want to do something every day off the resort /Christmas Mountain Village/.

What would be the most scenic hike at those parks mentioned in previous posts? It might be challenging or mild hike - we are up to all sorts of hikes. After going to Scout's Lookout /Angel's Landing, Zion Park/ I feel we are ready for even more demanding terrains.
