If you like hiking, Pafrey's Glenn and Pewit's Nest are both short, scenic hikes within a half hour of the dells. If you're there in the summer they both have great swimming/wading opportunities. Devil's Lake is also near by and has tons of great hiking trails.

And, if you're staying in the Dell's a couple of days, a stop over in Madison is fun. Check out the capital square, State Street, and Zoo while you're there.

Mirror Lake State Park, trip to downtown Madison (great farmers market), Capitol, Children's Museum, but go thru Lodi and take the car ferry over the Wisconsin River.

Circus World Museum in Baraboo; Mid Continent Railroad Museum in North Freedom. Both are short drives from the Dells. Also, Ho Chunk Casino is very close.
