Is there a good beach and snorkeling area withing walking distance of the Aston Waikoloa Colony Villas? I have noticed on the map it looks to be quite a ways from the beach.
The beach is at A-Bay and it is a ways. There is supposed to be a little snorkeling at the north end but I have not tried it. The water can be cloudy with stirred up sand.
The beach is a bit of a walk. That said, I liked A-Bay, particularly if you walk south, past the marriott to the more isolated areas of the beach. We saw more turtles than people. If you are willing to drive, the best spot for snorkeling is supposed to be down near Kona. I did a post on my website that covers A-Bay and snorkeling:
Hope that helps and have a great trip!
LoveTravelMom, that is a great page you made!!! Thanks.
Kahaluu is worth the drive--probably 45 minutes door to parking lot.
Thanks so much, all of you! This helps so much!
There is a public beach park at the south end of A- bay. You get to it by a road between the south edge of the Marriot and a parking lot. It has restrooms and showers. We have been to Tahiti, St Crois and the Great Barrier and we return to A-bay because, so far, it is the BEST for snorkeling consistently good conditions! Can't wait to return-
