painted eucalyptus trees

on one ever mentions these trees. for one, i am mesmerized by the regular trees. growing up in so cal, i love them . the smell, the button seeds, the slender , flowing trees...but on our last trip to hana, someone pointed out the PAINTED trees. i have the most beautiful pictures of the green , red, yellow and all, painted bark. these were some of the most beautiful living objects i have ever seen...enjoy, when on the road.

Aloha,

Actually, Charley--they DO get mentioned. Several regulars talk about them....Barbara, me, MsFuzz, BLBL.......they just get kind of overwhelmed by waterfalls and whales sometimes!

Rainbow Eucalyptus! Saw one in the Foster Botanical Gardens in Honolulu last January, and I haven't stopped talking about it!

I'm from Southern California as well ... and Eucalyptus of many varieties seem to thrive on the CA coast and warm inland areas. Smell great.

Imagine a whole grove of Rainbow Eucalyptus!

jarcure,

I don't know if the RTH is the BEST place or not, but in the vicinity of mp 12, the highway splits a small grove of them! Quite beautiful and definitely a highlight for us!

I think I saw one at Kaanapali Royale in Kaanapali Resort. The other ones I have seen are all at higher elevations , upcountry.

Grew up with Jacaranda in my front yard in Southern California. Dirty, dirty trees for suburbia, but perfect for Upcountry!

Thanks for the information everyone. I will be looking out for them in November. As for jacaranda. Yes, they are messy but not too high a price for such beauty I think.
