Boogie boarding around Kaanapali beach

We are planning a post xmas vacation to Maui for a week (Dec 29 - Jan 5) and looking at Kaanapali Marriot OceanClub. We have 2 adults, a 21 yr old, 20 yr old and 16 yr old. Welcome any recomendations.

Is there a place to Boogie board in this area that can be walked to? Thanks.

Welcome!

You've chosen an excellent location! But note that your accommodations are not in Lahaina - but a few miles north of the town.

You're currently on a little sub-Forum ... but you need the full Maui Forum. Always use it instead. That's where the info is, and many more readers.

If you scroll down the Maui Forum, you'll pick up all kinds of ideas for activities and restaurants ... and other things you never knew you needed to know!

Make sure to check of the Top Questions, off to the right-hand side of the screen.

If you don't have a good travel guidebook or two - you will need one to plan. And a good map of Maui is essential.

Yes, boogie boarding can be had right there, if conditions are right. It's always a "who knows", since you want a swell, but not too big for safety.

Fleming, up near Kapalua-is great-but can be for the most experienced only.

You have to be careful boggie boarding on any beach on Maui as most beaches have some amount of shore break. Meaning the waves break very quickly, sharply and most importantly in shallow water.

Fleming and particularly Big Beach Makena are about the worst.

However Kaanapali Beach can have a sharp break as well so I suggest you watch others for a bit to see how they are breaking before you go in

Be safe have fun, we love to boogie board Maui, you can some great rides once you get the hang of it

Here's a link to the Maui forum:

These little subforums really confuse folks. I wish TA would get rid of them!

You will see lots more info and also lots of Top Questions on the main Maui page. You'll need to use the "desktop" version of TA to see the TQ.
