Its a very rough 4wd road to the mill. The hike from Marble is 5 miles in to the mill from where the road gets rough.
If you are driving a rental car, it violates your rental car contract to drive unpaved roads. While there are some unpaved roads in Colorado that are well maintained county roads where you would have minimal risk, the road to Crystal Mill is NOT one of those. It is NOT advisable that you drive a rental car to Crystal Mill. You will assume all risk of loss including damage, loss of use, cost of tow truck, etc. Your insurance and any coverage provided by your credit card will not help you because you will have violated your rental car contract. You might want to read the comments about the road on this site.

The road in is gnarly. It's bumpy, 4WD, a shelf road; narrow with steep drop offs. Some places one vehicle would have to back up, should you meet a vehicle going the other direction. It's beautiful, though. You might want to consider a jeep tour to get there. Marble has a place that offers tours.
Thanks! So could you park in marble and hike the 5 miles? Is the road bad to marble?
The road from SH 133 to Marble (CR 3) is fine.
This video will show you the road from Marble to the Mill.

Kebler Pass is shorter and nice, The other way (Hwy 92) is an amazing drive; very beautiful, but it is a bit longer. If the leaves have changed, Kebler is great. If they haven't changed yet, I would consider the other way, even though it's longer because of the vistas.
By the way, all of our responses assume you would be going in from Marble. Don't even consider going over Scofield Pass. That would be too dangerous after Scofield Pass. That road closes sometime in Sept, anyway..
Thank you all for the information! Is there a certain place to park in Marble?
