Skynyrd

Hope to get an answer in a more specific forum

Hello all, I will be in Georgia mid August to see my son graduate from Ft. Benning and thought I might rent a car and drive to Jacksonville to see if I can visit some places made famous by the worlds greatest band. Can you believe 40 years in October since the freebird fell from the sky? WOW!

I have read (Sadly) that the grave of Ronnie was vandalized and had to be moved. Can I visit his grave to pay my respects? Are there other famous rockers buried around Jacksonville? I know Steve and Cassie Gaines are buried there as well, but what about the other bandmates, Billy, Leon, Bob Burns etc...? With the passing of Gregg Allman it is becoming the start of the end for these great musicians from the 60-70s. I found this but wondered if there are better websites for us fans?

What an incredible documentary this is!

Thank you!

I'm not aware of any "places to visit" in Jacksonville -- and the locals are pretty protective of their native sons.

I'll stand corrected if someone has links, etc., but when Jacksonville was in my territory, I knew tons of people who knew the entire Van Zant family, and they were loathe to see any of the family's favorite places turned into tourist traps.

Hi there,

I am not aware of any places that you can visit that memorializes the band. We did have a cafe here that was dedicated to the band and owned by a family member, but it closed several months ago. Sorry we don't have better news for you. Congrats on your son's graduation!
