Halibut Fishing

Our cruise in early June 2018 will end up in Anchorage. Is it possible to go halibut fishing nearby before we fly home?

Cruises end in either Seward or Whittier, not Anchorage. You can go halibut fishing out of either port before heading up to Anchorage. Lots of things to do and see if you can add a few more days.

You can't fish in Anchorage. The best fishing place closest to Anchorage, is probably the Kasilof River in Kenai. The distance from Anchorage to Kenai by driving is about 3 hours.

"You can't fish in Anchorage"

- not true

- you won't catch halibut in Anchorage, but there's great salmon fishing in downtown Anchorage's Ship Creek.

- halibut can be fished as close as Whittier (about an hour from Anchorage).

Unaware of any halibut fishing on the Kasilof River (not in Kenai enther). It's a bottom fish

It's the land portion of the trip, to Denali, that ends in Anchorage for the flight home. We want to extend the trip to include halibut fishing if that is an option for this time of year,

Whittier is a 1-1.5 hr drive from Anchorage. It's your closest community that offers halibut fishing.

Maple Marshmallows gave you some great advise.

If you can add on a few days then I recommend staying and fishing out of Seward.
