Santa Fe Area Trails - Wedding Photos

Hi friends! My fiance and I are getting married in Santa Fe in late May this year and we're hoping to take some photos after the ceremony in an area with a great view. We'll be visiting next week and will scope out some of the trails, but being that there are so many to choose from, I was hoping someone would have some advice on where to focus our search for the perfect photo vista. Keep in mind, we're hoping not to hike too far in given that we'll be in our wedding apparel (with a change of shoes, of course!). We have about a 2 hour gap between our ceremony and reception, so we're not too concerned with time or rushing.

Thanks!!

Depending on where you're being married and having the reception, two hours might not be as long as you think. What are your venues?

I have seen groups taking wedding photos up at the courtyard area of Museum Hill...its between the Indian Arts and the Folk Art Museum. Also up there is the Botanical Gardens across from those two museums. https:/…

Many of the trails in/near Santa Fe are a little scrubby. I am finding it hard to come up with trail ideas that speak beautiful Wedding photos. Local hikers may weigh in on that.

There is a secret garden with a duck pond and beautiful landscaping, plus some sculptures in a large enclosed back area at the Matteuchi Gallery on Paseo De Peralta. I would visit the gallery when you are here, call or e-mail them so you can see that nice intimate area. Once inside the gallery you go through a small door to the back and voila....

Museum Hill, as ME recommends, should be an excellent way to go for this -- if and only if you have someone to drive you there. The big headache is parking. If you have to drive and park yourselves, you may have a "hike" simply to reach your destination from the car! But if you're getting chauffeured there and back, that's solvable. The setting is sufficiently open and outdoorsy that good photos should be possible even though you're close to "civilization," such as it is.

Agree about the trails close to town being "a little scrubby." The Tsankawi outlier of Bandelier National Monument is superb for things like this -- my wife's sister and BIL had a memorable wedding there years ago -- but your 2-hour window makes that one impossible, as you'll spend too much of that time driving to and from the site. You won't have time to head for the high country either. Your best bet may be the Atalaya Mountain Trail; see https:/…atalaya-mountain-trail for a description. Note the "heavily trafficked" part; that traffic may be the biggest impediment to good photography.

Honestly, I'd just go for Museum Hill under the circumstances.
