Plaza restaurant rec!

Family of four (with 2 teenage boys) heading to Santa Fe for two nights on our way to Colorado. Staying just off the plaza so want within walking distance.. Looking for a moderately priced dinner spot with local cuisine but that also offers some American options (for the teen who doesn’t like spicy food). The Shedd is closed on sundays and that was what we were going to do. This will be after a 10 hour drive so something casual and comfortable

These are all good options. Santa Fe Bite isn't really "local cuisine" except to the extent that putting green chile on a cheeseburger makes it "local" -- which actually is a pretty fair extent, when you get right down to it. It may be best for the teens, but the parents may want something more, well, local. Mucho Gusto has the "best" food among these, in my experience, but can be rather pricey for a family of four. The Plaza Cafe is a good compromise and would be my recommendation in your specific situation.

Del Charro is always a good option and affordable, check their menu see if it will work. https://delcharro.com/ AND Santa Fe Bite has more than just burgers, https://santafebite.com/

If your lodging is close to the Railyard area (not too far from Plaza, but not the Plaza) check out Cowgirl BBQ or Second Street Brewing.

Some of our favorite family friendly restaurants near the Plaza or very close to it: All except for the El Parasol are within walking distance if you are fairly fit.

Plaza Cafe, the oldest family run restaurant in SF. I think the original Plaza Cafe would be the most fun. Its directly on the Plaza and has a menu that includes some great NM specialties for you and other things which the kids might prefer. It has also been used in movies. We watched scenes being filmed a couple of years ago for the Nick Nolte/Sela Ward series "Graves". https://www.plazacafesantafe.com

The Plazuela and Fiesta Lounge at the La Fonda Hotel also on the Plaza https:/…dining-entertainment

Santa Fe Bite for green chile cheese and other burgers https:/…index.html

................

Cowgirl BBQ on Guadalupe near the Railyard district was for us the last time, dirty and with sticky tabletops. But on a good day can be great. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Revie…

A local burger chain is also really good...Blake's Lotaburger. All fresh ingredients and freshly made. Their seasoned fries are really good...not too spicy. https://www.lotaburger.com/menu/ The closest one is on Guadalupe Street west of the Plaza a bit.

......

Another local, casual take out, further out along Cerillos Road: https:/…tab-id-1

For more adult menus to check out... Mucho Gusto and the Shed. Sazon for Spanish Moles. For steaks Rio Chama and the Bull Ring.

Be aware that if you are not used to spicy, NM chiles, either red or green can be extremely hot even for adults. Its good to taste before having it put all over your burgers or other meals. If you love spicy, you will be in heaven. NM cuisine is not all that much like Mexican food elsewhere. SF is a dining destination and has all kinds of other cuisines in town.

If they’re like most teens, they probably love pizza. Rooftop Pizza is very good and the views are fantastic. http://rooftoppizzeria.com

I’d also second Plaza Cafe. Amazing burgers!

Yeah, Sunday night in Santa Fe is tricky. Santa Fe Bite, La Plazuela, Plaza Cafe, Pink Adobe or Coyote Cafe Rooftop Cantina. I think they are all open Sundays, but check their websites to make sure.
