Weather in February?

What is typical weather mid-February? Would we be able to tour Bandalier National Monument ruins? Would we need chains/4WD car to get from Albequerque to Santa Fe and/or from Santa Fe to Bandalier?

We live not far from Bandelier and visit the park year-round and generally have no problems except on a day when it snows substantially.

Weather questions here are really tough due to the unpredictability of weather these days.

I would expect brisk if not cold temperatures with daytime highs in the 40-50's and very cold at night. We experience about a 25-40 degree drop every night of the year up here at this elevation. There is tremendous variability on weather here in very small geographical areas.

Just to give you an idea. Here in the valley we live in at 5,600' we average about 10" of precip per year, while just 20 minutes away in either Santa Fe or Los Alamos, they average 16-18".

My suggestion is to be prepared for anything, but not to worry yourself to death over it. Things here always clear up rather quickly and despite being a very poor state in general we have an outstanding road maintenance department. Weather fronts come in and move out pretty fast and then that glorious sun comes out and does its thing.
