Appropriate clothing for early May visit

We have a Ladies Trip planned for May 5-9. What kind of clothing is appropriate for this time of year. We ar coming from Texas where we are in mid-70-80 degree weather right now.

Thanks

Early May is a great time to visit. For daytime expect highs anywhere from 45- 60 and nighttime still cold and can have frost right up to Mothers Day. Too early for shorts pretty much. Everyone dresses very casual in Newport.

Early May could certainly be 70's too, like today. Yay!

Layers are your best bet. A sweater or fleece a windbreaker will keep you as warm as you need to be. Newport stays cool due to the ocean effect in May. Sometimes breezy too. If you go out on the water... and you should if you can, even if you just take the harbor shuttle... I'd opt for sneakers instead of sandals. Every year I see tourists sitting on their feet, wrapping them in clothing etc because they wore sandals out on the water. Also Newport has a lot of cobblestone streets, and sneakers will give you better footing.
