1st trip to Vicksburg - Help with lodging, casino, & food!

My husband and I are planning on coming to Vicksburg for our anniversary trip in April We plan on visiting the park, but would like some suggestions on some other things - namely lodging, casino info, restaurants, and other attractions. We like to have fun, so casinos sound nice - which ones are the nicest to stay in? Riverfest will be going on, will it be hard to drive to and from and park? Suggestions? What restaurants would be your choice for regular dining and a nice, but not "froofy" meal? And other than the park and casinos, what would you suggest for us to do? We love the history and civil war heritage.

Thanks much!!!

Have not stayed at the casinos only in hotels near Civil war park. The Civil War park, museum and exhibits will easily take you half a day or more. There is a Hampton inn, Comfort inn and LaQuinta inn. There is also a Cracker Barrel near the hotels. For dining we really like Rusty's on the Riverfront. The Walnut Hills restaurant is also good.

There is a nice downtown area where you can walk, the historic Coca-Cola museum, riverfront murals, and several historic homes to tour.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how the parking is downtown if we stayed at one of the casinos? The rates at the B&Bs is pretty high due to the Riverfest. I appreciate all suggestions! I heard the food was great at several places!

There was parking along the streets downtown and there were some people visiting the week we were there but know Riverfest will add many more people.

We went to Vicksburg in October for the first time and we stayed at the Riverwalk Casino Hotel. We really liked it and the rates were very reasonable. Plus, if you join their Player's Club, you get a booklet of coupons. We enjoyed the selection of slots and we also enjoyed the buffet. Loved the location right on the river. We drove in from Natchez (lovely town) and spent many hours at the military park (make sure that you get the CD to listen to as you drive through the park) and then went on to the casino for the evening. We did not do anything else in Vicksburg on that trip, but we are going back next week to explore it more. We will be staying at Riverwalk again.
