Is Vicksburg Safe

We are two female travelling from North Carolina to Dallas.

We are planning to stop the first night in Braeslton GA.

We would like to make our second stop in Vicksburg Mississippi, it looks like a cute town.

We will be travelling along the I20.

With all the different reviews out there , we are hesitant about how safe it would be for 2 females

Travelling alone. Are there better places to stop?

Thank You

Vicksburg is safe depending on where in town you go. I'd suggest staying in one of the hotels by the Vicksburg Outlet Mall. Hope you make time to visit the Military Park and see Gold in the Hills. Great places to eat depend on your budget. The Outlet Mall has a Cracker Barrel in front of it. Rusty's and Roca's are high scaled, but have had nothing bad at either place. Downtown has Lillians and the Wine House just opened. It's a great place to visit and glad that you're thinking of staying here.

We love eating at Rusty's and always stay at the LaQuinta or Comfort suites. Have done multiple road trips to Texas and never had a problem.

The tourist areas of Vicksburg are safe in the day time . You do not want to be driving around in town at night.

Rusty's is a must for us every time we are in Vicksburg---try their fried green tomatoes. Across the street from Rusty's is the Lower Mississippi River Museum which has a tug boat you can tour. The museum is small but interesting (free admission). About a block west are The Riverfront Murals along the levy which show a pictorial history of Vicksburg and are very interesting. The Vicksburg National Park is interesting to drive through--you can spend as little or as much time as you like there. The cemetery with all the unmarked graves is particularly moving to me.

You should be fine at any of the national chain hotels along I20. (We always stay at the Riverwalk Casino as we like to gamble.)

Be sure to stop at the Visitors Center for a magnificent view of The Mississippi River and a great photo-op. The Visitors Center is on Washington, just off I20., the last exit before you cross the border.

Safe Travels to you both.

Enjoy your trip! You will likely be passing through my hometown of Forest, Mississippi. So, WELCOME to Mississippi! Just north of the Vicksburg visitor center is a bluff that you can walk up (I don't recall if you can drive up) to get great photos of the Mississippi River and River Bridges. It is literally right beside the visitor center, before the next traffic light to the north. I have driven in Vicksburg's downtown area at night and did not feel unsafe but the layout of the streets is confusing so I would recommend to plan your route if you do venture out at night.
