Need Bear Spray?

Is bear spray needed if we don't plan on doing any trail hikes? Just overlooks, drives, boardwalk areas, etc? The only one I've even considered is the new overlook for Grand Prismatic Springs and that depends on how far of a hike it will be. (Limited some b/c of an ACL surgery recovery that will only be a couple months out.) I had bear spray down on my list, but the more I read I wonder if it is only needed if you are trail hiking. Thanks!

I carry bear spray on hikes, but I don't bring it to the boardwalk areas, overlooks etc. There is always a possibility of a bear encounter everywhere, but in those populated areas, hopefully he / she would be in sight, and you can make the correct decision to keep you distance or not get out of your car depending on the situation.
