I’d rather stay in a Curry Village tent cabin vs a nicer property outside Yosemite Valley. Plus you’ll need a day use pass if staying outside so make sure you can get one first before planning on staying outside.

Here are links to the most current info:
If you stay outside the park, you have two challenges -- finding accommodations AND getting a day-use pass. You could check for the day-use pass now, and if you get it, then search for lodging outside the park.
Personally, I'd check the official in-park lodging website compulsively throughout the day, as that would be the easiest and most convenient solution.
If you can get reservations to enter the park - yes those are needed too - you could have a full day in the park and then drive to the Toulumne Meadows part of the park, Stay in the Eastern Sierras such as at June Lake Loop.
Its a very pretty area.
Then return to Yosemite the next day That way you get to see two amazingly beautiful area.
