I contacted Jamaican Tourist Board to find out what counts as 5* in Jamaica. They informed by EOB had not been accredited by them. Clearly anyone can claim to be 5* without actually meeting any standards. This just confirmed my suspicions whilst I was there. Not fit for purpose and clearly making false claims of quality they could not deliver.

You are right, there is no board, agency, body, organization, in Jamaica that assigns "stars" to a resort. Thus resorts can rate themselves and most find that the number 5 for stars applies to their resort. It would be a job termination moment not to do so for the head of resort marketing for a Jamaica property.

This is the outright false representation. Driving fast doesn’t make you an F1 driver. Surely you have to prove yourself? So

Anyone can set themselves up, say you’re 5* and then produce mediocre service and crap food and nobody will stop them from consistently ripping off guests. The staff are inadequately trained, I don’t think any of the chefs can have been near any of the countries whose food they profess to be able to cook!

The Tourist Board need to get on top of this as guests to Jamaica are getting the wrong impressions of the island. I for one will not be returning.

The blame clearly belongs to Excellence, not Jamaica!!

You picked a hotel that has been promising to open for over a decade.

And went for the opening.......

It's not Jamaica, bad choice in hotel:(

I had always assumed star ratings were awarded not self proclaimed. Yes it was definitely a bad choice on my part. But if anyone can just set themselves up as 5* on the island who do you trust?

Here in the U.K. standards have to be met and kept before stars are given and can be taken away. Pretty sure that’s how it works across Europe. I have been to a dozen different Caribbean islands and this is the first time experienced such bad all round service. They were not just teething problems.

You should have come to TA before you booked and you would have been told it wast a 5 star hotel and since you were staying at the hotel the second week after its grand opening there would be issues. Hotel ratings vary from country to country as does the criteria for ratings. Forbes, AAA,AA, and CAA offer valid and uniform rankings. Its well known there are no 5 star large AIs in Jamaica. Live and learn.

I booked way before it opened. Was in a panic with first reviews but at that point would have to forfeit everything paid if I cancelled 🙁

Have you written a review? None of the Excellence properties are AAA 5 Diamond.

Yes I did. Stupidly when I was still at the resort. I was trying to get the attention of their customer experiences manager as I just felt I was complaining (justifiably) about everything and management were not responding to my request for a meeting. I didn’t realise that I would not be able to update my review.

Suggest you write another review to add to the review you wrote while you were at EOB.

"Suggest you write another review to add to the review you wrote while you were at EOB"

Please note you would need to ask TA to delete the original review before you could add a new review of your stay
