1.5 days left, what to do?

Hi we are staying in Uvita now, 2 days down, one full day and 1/2 day left. Family of 4, 2 boys ages 6 and 10. We wake up early and are totally pooped by 2pm (it's hot!). Day 1 we did zip lining at hacienda baru. Day 2 we hiked to Nayuaca waterfalls. Visited playa ventanas. Should we hit up Manuel Antonio tomorrow? We've never been, and it seems like a nice wildlife/beach combo. Thinking of walking out onto the whales tail our last morning, at low tide. Other ideas for tomorrow would include a surf lesson with the kids, but I haven't seen anything in the area. We have seen some great wildlife around our house and Hacienda baru. Haven't had great luck with beaches as far as swimming... How's the MA beach? Any suggestions are appreciated. I've used this forum extensively and it never disappoints, even with some snarky remarks. Thanks guys!

The beach inside Manuel Antonio national park is fine for swimming. The public beach right outside the park entrance has bigger waves and occasional riptides.

Another option is to visit the waterfall just east of Uvita. Just ask locals how to find it. There's a great simple cafe by the parking area and it's a short steep walk down to the waterfall & swimming hole. Its set in derp shade surrounded by tall trees so a great stop in the middle of the day when it's hot out.

The beach inside the park in Manuel Antonio is gorgeous and popular for swimming. Lots of fairly tame wildlife in the park too so easy to see monkeys, etc. In fact, keep an eye on your stuff because the monkeys may try to steal it!

Hi thanks guys. We ended up going to MA. It was great, crowded, but still awesome. The beach was a hit with the kids, water like bath water, so warm, no waves at all. We took a guided tour and saw a few animals (yey sloths!), lounged on the beach, and checked out the Uvita waterfall too on the way back. Great day.

What was the problem with the beach and/or swimming at Uvita? Next month we are spending a couple days at Uvita (after a few at Arena), before going to MA for 4 days. I was anticipating being able to swim and/or snorkel from Uvita/Marina Ballenas. Not so?

Don't plan to snorkel there unless you take an all day tour out to Cano Island. We swam with no problem in Dominical and Uvita on numerous beaches. Our favorite things in the area were visiting the waterfalls which we found easily in Uvita and Ojochal (Fantastic meal across the small st in Ojochal at the tilapia farm). A day of ATV riding (private small groups) with Diamante Verde Tours was amazing high up above the beaches.

You can snorkel of the whales tail in Marino Ballena park or on a tour. Swimming is also posible in the area like Marino Ballena Park if the waves are not too large. But seek local advice when you are here.
