Palmas del Mar beaches

We visited Palmas in early February, stayed at the Marbella Club. There was no beach there; ocean came right up to the shoreline berm. The waves at the Beach Club next door crashed against the seawall built to keep the sea at bay, so there was no beach there either. However, people staying at Marbella a few days after we left say that there is a beach. Did we just happen to be there when the beach temporarily disappeared?

There is a beach, but you have to drive to it.

Your best bet is to open Google earth find you place then do straight east.

Then once you see the beach, back track the road to find the way home.

Print it out so you can use it like a map.

The beach changes frequently based on wind surges and directions. Some parts of the year are more subject to 'dissapearing' beach then others. We are located east of Palmas by less then 10 miles and have the same situation.

Humacao is not really known for great beaches. There is a beach on the next large crescent south of there, but the waves can be rough. There is also a nicer public beach (Balneario de Humacao) at Punta Santiago just north of there. You'd have to rent a car to get there. There are facilities, life guard, paid parking, etc.

Balenario De Humacao sadly no longer has facilities or lifeguards . There is parking still at the Centro Vaccaciones entrance gate for small fee OR along the road shoulder where the locals park for free.

Palmas del Mar beaches are known for being very rough with dangerous undercurrents. It is not uncommon for Palmas del Mar beach to have a high tide and wash away the shore. Even on low tides, it is not advisable to swim on this beach even for experienced swimmers.
