Nosara kid-friendly?

We (2 parents, 3 kids aged 4, 4, and 6) are visiting Costa Rica in March of 2015 for 2 weeks. We've booked a place in Samara and could easily stay there for 2 weeks, but we're also thinking of splitting up our time and spending 1 week there and 1 week elsewhere. A friend with kids mentioned that he really liked Nosara.

Is the beach/ocean near Nosara kid-friendly? Our kids are not confident swimmers yet, so we're looking for somewhere with a relatively calm ocean, where we don't have to worry about our kids getting swept out to sea :)

Or if not, Nosara, can anyone recommend other places with mellow surf? Ideally it would be somewhere with kid-friendly beaches but with decent surf nearby (for me, a beginner/intermediate level surfer)

The beaches around Nosara are known for surfing, meaning that waves tend to be big enough to do so. The town itself is as kid-friendly as any other location.

Nosara is great for kids. The beaches are wonderful and there is lots to do. I highly recommend going up for a few days.

The beach in Nosara is awesome but waves are bigger than Samara and there also isn't any shade on the beach. I would buy or bring a beach umbrella for kids. You also might want to stay at a place that has a pool so the kids can swim. The town is a really cool laid back surfer town. Very chill.
