Which area/town should we visit on the coast?

Hi all. My husband and I will be in North Carolina and will spend a few days in the mountains in the west, but we would also like to spend a few days on the coast but don't know where to go. We're active adults in our early 50s and have no kids. We love water and water views but are not the type to just "hang out on the beach and relax". Some of the characteristics we are looking for are below, roughly in order of priority. I realize we might not neccessarily find all these things in any one place but hopefully this list will give a sense of what we are looking for

Pretty town with pretty southern historical homes

Water views

Boat tours

Nature of any kind worth exploring

Swimming in big waves

Live Music

Good restaurants

Watching outdoor sports like wind surfing

I might be brave and try hang gliding

What town or towns on the coast do you recommend?

We were in Atlantic Beach on the Crystal Coast recently and loved It- beautiful beach,, with waves, great restaurants, and lots to do! FORT Macon and Beaufort were interesting and scenic and if we were there longer we would have taken a boat excursion. We definitely want to go back

Where are you going in the mountains? If Asheville I’d recommend Charleston SC. It’s a relatively easy drive and closer than most NC beaches. It checks almost all your boxes.

Only place I know of that offers hang gliding is Jockeys Ridge in the Outer Banks.

Wherever you go, please educate yourself on Rip Currents before you get in the water. 3 people have drowned already this summer. https:/…
