We are looking to stay in one of the chalets on Gruissan Plage this summer and wondering about getting to and from Gruissan old town. Can anyone tell me if a car is necessary or if it is walkable? Plus, are there taxis??
Thanks in advance

You would need a car or a bike.
As far as I know there is only one taxi company - husband and wife enterprise - they have one car each and need to be booked in advance. There might be a second one.
It is walkable of course, but quite a distance, 4 km or so, and the chalet area is quite large too, so it depends a bit at which end.
Edited: 5 years agoAlso, do a walk aroung the chalet area using street view. It is not everybody's cup of tea.
There is a bus from Ilot 9 Gruissan Plage to the town via the Avenue D'Aiguille and onwards thence to Narbonne.

it's route 8 of the Narbonne bus network. In winter the service is sparse, in summer more buses run.
More information, only in French, at https://www.citibus.fr/index.php
"Bus Cool" is the school bus. I very much doubt they are more frequent in summer !
It's normal around there to run more buses in July and August specifically for the summer holidays.
In winter some buses run only if booked in advance.
Yes, I know as I am around here/there right now :) The beach buses however, normally run between Narbonne and Narbonne Plage, so I would not count on any buses to the chalets.
The map in the link below shows there is a summer connection between Gruissan and Gruissan Plage, but the timetable link will take you to the winter routes only. Time will show what is actually available.
