Hi
What is the weather like for a end November to mid-December visit? Will appreciate any comments. Planning a 4-5 day visit. Thanks.
Wondering if it is worth doing a 3 day 2 night guided tour or if you can do it much cheaper and just as easily by yourself. Don't really want to do the batik, silver, puppet extras, just see the temples, palace, etc.
Your idea sounds good. Thanks a lot. Any suggestions for a good hotel - about mid range. I am in my early 70s, so won't be doing any mountain climbing, lol.
The most convenient area to stay is around the Malioboro area where there are a great many hotels and guest houses to choose from. Please give us an idea of budget as “midrange” would meandifferent things to different people.
There are also heaps of restaurants and shopping opportunities in that area.
HI Jennifer. In future you might want to start your own thread rather than piggybacking on someone elses. It will be easier for everyone.
Yes, Jogja is the second most visited area in Indonesia and is well set up for tourism. You can easily make your own agenda so you don't have to endure the shops that tours take you to. Also avoid the becak because they can be terrible about trying to take people shopping, especially if you seem like this is your first time.
Many if not all accomodation are good about helping you plan your trips, they either have in house travel agencies for day trips or work with a local travel agent. There are also tour booths that package people together for trips where you feel you want to be with other people. I prefer to do private trips, and hire a car and driver. You can look at Yogyes website which has a lot of information about what to see and do as well as transport companies etc that can work with you.
I was thinking around the $60-$80 price for a hotel for the night.
If you are an Accor member they have several good hotels in Central Java. Ibis Styles is at the end of Jalan Sosrowijayan which intersects with Malioboro and is an interesting stroll away. The Novotel is more stylish and has a great pool and very easy taxi ride (or becak) to Malioboro. Ibis Malioboro is connected to the Malioboro Mall which makes it very convenient, but the rooms are small.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I am looking forward to visiting Borobudur.
