“Cavalier attithde to seating”
Review of Air Canada

Reviewed 6 October 2024

We checked into our flight online and selected Isle seats and had a boarding pass issued. As we arrive into the airport, we discover they had changed our seats to two middle seats so we were sandwiched in on both sides. We queried the reason for the change and the explanation given was "we have the right to change it". No reason just that they could. The staff at the airport essentially said tough s*** go away. Terrible. This was alongside the flight being constantly delayed that we arrived much later than scheduled. I appreciate things go wrong from time to time, but to shift us to terrible seats without explanation is unnaceptable and new to me. The staff member even attempted to lie to us by saying we had a window and Isle seat until I pointed out the ticket said middle seats.

I had read the various negative reviews about Air Canada but they had good flight times and cheapest for flights into Vancouver and out of Calgary. I had checked our aircraft out on Flight Radar and my expectations reduced even further when I saw the 777 we were flying on was over 15 years old.
The aircraft was indeed looking tired and the back of my seat broken and noisy every time I moved. It wasn't very clean inside and my window was dirty on the outside which significantly reduced the ability to see the amazing views of Greenland and Canada.
The IFE screen was old but had a decent amount of content but mine crashed during the flight but was quickly reset by one of the flight attendants - there was also no power from the USB port or the universal power point between the seats.

I'm one of the weird people who normally enjoy in flight meals but the food on this flight (and even worse on our return) was pretty much inedible. A cucumber salad followed by an awful Chicken Teriyaki - I couldn't actually cut my bread roll as it was frozen/stale. Luckily we picked up sandwiches In Pret before the flight and kept them in a small cooler bag with a couple of cold drinks to help store the food.

The flight attendants were better than I expected and I get the feeling they're used to receiving food trays which are relatively untouched.
If I travel to Canada again - the country and people are amazing- I won't fly AC and would rather pay extra for BA or connect via Seattle where there is a much bigger choice of airlines.

I've had a better experience on pretty much every other airline I've used. I can only think AC don't try very hard on the Lon-Vancouver route as it's only them and BA who offer daily direct flights. I wanted to like AC but do yourself a favour and fly any other airline if you want modern, clean aircraft who provide food you can eat.

I certainly don't recommend this airline. The small planes they use are extremely loud. I have been on propeller Planes before so I know they don't need to be so loud. Flight from Montreal to Vancouver. The screen didn't work properly even after a reset. Luckily I had TV shows downloaded onto my phone! Travelling from one end of the 2nd largest country to another would of been horrific overwise!

Serving Pasta at 9 am is not normal. She admitted to dropping my extras and had to beg for a pudding!

On return food was cold not hot. I can understand the no Cheese with bread if they served the same to vegans and vegetarians but why the cheese in the stone food pasta.

Lunch was oranges and a muffin that was drier than the Sahara. Much would of preferred the slice of cake and a Yoghurt as I aren't Vegan.

Was treated like a war criminal for daring to press the call button as I needed a drink for my sinus medication.

Every airline ensures people actually sit down during turbulence but AC don't care! We are all swaying and some idiot is getting stuff out of the over head storage!

They don't care about health and safety.

No duty free sold!

The only reason they earnt a star is the Pizza you buy when it isn't a free food flight is lovely and so are the Gherkin pretzels.

I cannot express how frustrated I am with Air Canada after this nightmare of an experience. My baggage was delayed for nearly 1.5 days, which forced me to urgently purchase clothes and essential items for a critical meeting I had in Halifax. Following the proper process, I filed a claim expecting to be fairly compensated, especially since Air Canada’s own policy states that passengers can receive up to $1,280 CAD for delayed baggage on domestic flights.

However, after waiting a ridiculous 50 days just to receive a response, I was offered a meager $300 CAD, which is laughable considering the costs I incurred. Their excuse? I should have “minimized my costs,” despite the fact that I only purchased what was absolutely necessary for my week-long trip. Their policy clearly states the compensation limits, but it seems like they have no intention of honoring them.

To make matters worse, customer service has been an absolute disaster. Throughout these 50 days, I repeatedly tried to contact them to speak with someone who could help, but every time I asked to speak with a manager or supervisor, I was given the same empty promises: "We will escalate your case" or "A manager will call you back." That call never came. Despite giving my contact information multiple times, I never received a follow-up from anyone. It's obvious that Air Canada does not care about its passengers or resolving their issues.

After hearing the same excuses four to five times, and still getting no results, I realized that Air Canada’s customer service is designed to avoid responsibility and delay claims rather than to actually assist its customers. According to their own guidelines, claims should be resolved within 45 days, but they completely disregarded their own timeline and left me hanging without any solution.

This is, without a doubt, the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Their dismissive, robotic responses and refusal to engage with customers is beyond unprofessional. I feel misled, ignored, and cheated by Air Canada.

If you are considering flying with Air Canada, do yourself a favor and DON’T. They will happily take your money but offer no real support or accountability when issues arise. Their complete disregard for their own policies, combined with the total lack of communication and responsiveness, makes them the worst airline I have ever flown with.

Avoid Air Canada at all costs if you value your time, money, and peace of mind.

We purchased the tickets at issue from Air Canada (through Expedia).

The problem that I am formally denouncing and complaining against, here, is therefore an Air Canada flight, operated by Lufthansa.

Re: Air Canada flight 9097 via Lufthansa flight no LH1751, from Athens to Munich on 30 September 2024.

An astonishingly long delay was inflicted to us, regarding this flight.

We had a connecting flight in Munich, to return home, to Canada. As did numerous other passengers in this flight, to other destinations.

Consequently, during the long delay, and afterwards the long flight, we endured stress, anxiety, powerless anger, mental anguish. (By the way, please instruct your employees - at the airport and in the plane -, to refrain in such a situation from making jokes in each other's ear, to laugh and have fun, while the passengers are submitted to a slow, lengthy torture.)

This is UNACCEPTABLE.

We are not talking about some "modest" airline company, nor some airports situated in a jungle.

Air Canada, Lufthansa. A flight from the capital of Athens, to a major city/and airport hub in Germany...

We have paid serious money for these tickets. While through our taxes, it is also with our money that our government has saved Air Canada from bankruptcy…

Same on you !

Shame on you.
