I cannot express how frustrated I am with Air Canada after this nightmare of an experience. My baggage was delayed for nearly 1.5 days, which forced me to urgently purchase clothes and essential items for a critical meeting I had in Halifax. Following the proper process, I filed a claim expecting to be fairly compensated, especially since Air Canada’s own policy states that passengers can receive up to $1,280 CAD for delayed baggage on domestic flights.
However, after waiting a ridiculous 50 days just to receive a response, I was offered a meager $300 CAD, which is laughable considering the costs I incurred. Their excuse? I should have “minimized my costs,” despite the fact that I only purchased what was absolutely necessary for my week-long trip. Their policy clearly states the compensation limits, but it seems like they have no intention of honoring them.
To make matters worse, customer service has been an absolute disaster. Throughout these 50 days, I repeatedly tried to contact them to speak with someone who could help, but every time I asked to speak with a manager or supervisor, I was given the same empty promises: "We will escalate your case" or "A manager will call you back." That call never came. Despite giving my contact information multiple times, I never received a follow-up from anyone. It's obvious that Air Canada does not care about its passengers or resolving their issues.
After hearing the same excuses four to five times, and still getting no results, I realized that Air Canada’s customer service is designed to avoid responsibility and delay claims rather than to actually assist its customers. According to their own guidelines, claims should be resolved within 45 days, but they completely disregarded their own timeline and left me hanging without any solution.
This is, without a doubt, the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Their dismissive, robotic responses and refusal to engage with customers is beyond unprofessional. I feel misled, ignored, and cheated by Air Canada.
If you are considering flying with Air Canada, do yourself a favor and DON’T. They will happily take your money but offer no real support or accountability when issues arise. Their complete disregard for their own policies, combined with the total lack of communication and responsiveness, makes them the worst airline I have ever flown with.
Avoid Air Canada at all costs if you value your time, money, and peace of mind.
