On my way to the airport I received a message to choose another flight but there was nothing to choose from. When we arrived at my home airport our flight to PHL where we were to connect to a flight to LIS, was delayed. Then it was pushed back 2X and finally cancelled. The agent blamed it on bad weather which was a lie because other airlines to PHL left at the same time and were not cancelled. Clearly AA knew at 3 pm when I left for the airport that my flight would be cancelled, why else would they tell me to pick a different flight 3 hours before the flight was scheduled to leave? My dissatisfaction is that there was time before our scheduled flight to reroute us, or get us on an earlier flight, or another airline before things hit the fan. Clearly they knew there was not going to be a 6:07 flight.

The only positive thing (and the reason I gave 2 stars instead of one) is the agent from earlier came to us in departures and spent 45 minutes rerouting us. It took many attempts to find us flights due to it being Labor Day weekend and we needed 2 seats on 2 flights. She tried every city and was unable to get us to LIS on AA before 4 days time. Finally we asked to be put on a different airline because we had less than 2 days to meet our tour. The only solution was to fly to NYC's LGA and transfer to NJ's NEWARK airport. We are very familiar with NYC so we agreed. We left our airport that night at 830 pm with boarding passes for the next day for AA 6 am to LGA and TAP 540pm to LIS. We went back home and returned to our airport at 3AM next morning for the 6 AM flight and the rest of trip ended up working ok. We transferred between the airports by public trains because traffic was bad due to holiday weekend and the US Open. Of course there was a strike by luggage handlers at LIS that began 4 hours before we landed but by some miracle we got our luggage and made the tour in time.

We paid $339.10 extra to fly LAX-KOA in the Main Cabin. To no fault of the airline the flight was delayed due to maintenance problems and was two hours late leaving. We fly main cabin for the extra leg room, drinks and food purchase. The drink cart came ONE time with no food options and no offer for alcohol. The flight attendants did not come around again until after our five-hour flight was nearly over to offer a glass of water. Our return flight same thing no food, no alcohol. I asked the flight attendant and was told sorry and that I should report it. Needless to say, it was a long flight without any lunch. If I pay extra for these services... I expect them to be available. Totally unacceptable American and will think twice about my next flights.

Imagine paying $5000 for an American Airline trip, canceling well in advance (half a year), are told you get a credit for your trip (that I have to physical call to use), and then opening an email to see that your credit isn't even HALF of the total price. And this was my LEISURE trip.

For the military, I travel often and everywhere. And because of the horrendous airliner, almost every trip is riddled with stress over whether or not I'm going to make it to my destination. This will be the last time I ever fly with this piss-poor company.

This airline is as greedy as the rest with their nickel and dime fees. But what separated them this time was the fact that my family was split up on our flight although we purchased our tickets all together in one transaction. Every other airline I’ve ever flown on groups our seats together when purchased all at once. But American split us up because we opted to not purchase our seats, thinking we’d be seated together like other airlines we’ve used. We were quite shocked to see that all the cheap $16-$20 aisle and window seats were all bought up when we checked in. There were literally only middle seats left, and we were all split amongst those remaining middle seats. So American splits up your family just to collect a measly extra $16. Never again. I’m sticking with Delta. We only flew American due to unused flight credits. Glad those are gone now.

Horrible company. My last 7 flights have been delayed due to a number of reasons. Horrible, horrible company who needs to find better management.
