Cannot say anything bad about the service level on board, nice comfortable business class chair on board this A320 on a domestic flight. Also great personal service, attendants are very service oriented. However, checking in at Guangzhou at the special business/first area is not really spectacular, also very bad English speaking. Lounge at Guangzhou is also very rundown, an not really Western things to chow. Decided to stick to the plastic packed cakes which was more or less acceptable.

For such a short fligh (4:20 jours) I flew on a A320, so the business class is not as wide as for a long haul flight. But the service was really at the top. Always taking care of you,your comfort and your satisfaction. Meal was good (not fantastic but you have to compare apples with apples).

Flight CZ304 from London Heathrow to Guangzhou China on a 787-800 (first leg to Brisbane). The seats in economy class are narrow, very hard and very uncomfortable. The back of the seat is quite concaved too so it feels as though you're hunched over and I couldn't seem to put my shoulders of head back enough even when reclined and I'm only 175cm and slim. On an 11hr flight it was atrocious and felt like a stress position after only a few hours. Leg room would be tight if much taller. They've obviously crammed a few more rows of seats in at the expense of comfort. However boarding was fast, cabin staff were friendly and I can't emphasise how good the food was (I like Asian food). Cost of flight was 15% cheaper than the next sub 25hr flight time to Brisbane. In flight entertainment (IFE) was below average by modern standards and the touch screen is very temperamental. Normall I don't use IFE but tablets and smartphone are not allowed to be turned on during the flight (didn't realise until flight security gave me a ticking off) so all my movies and documentaries I'd downloaded were useless. Would've been bearable were it not the poor IFE. The second leg (CZ381) on an airbus A340 was much more comfortable....felt like business class in comparison. I would only fly with them again if it doesn't involve the B787.

Both flights from England to China then China to Australia were very good. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly and made the flight as comfortable as possible. The food was tasty and there was many films and programmes to choose from on everyone’s individual mini T.V where you could also access all flight details. The chairs could be uncomfortable at times due to being on them so long but a blanket and a small pillow were provided and I sat on my pillow for extra comfort. Beer and wine were included with the drink aswell as juice, cola and other soft drinks. My only fault with this airline is the fact the male passengers seemed to not understand how to aim on a plane and piddle on the seat and the floor and there was hair at times it was absolutely disgusting but the staff can’t be blamed as the toilet got in this state during their break hours of long haul. My advice on this long haul flight is to bring anything to keep you feeling clean such as wipes, dry shampoo, deodorant ,mouth wash and hand sanitizer plus comfy shoes or slippers that you don’t mind walking in pee in haha. Will use China southern again.

I am stating outright here I would NEVER fly this airline again. Anybody wanting to fly this airline because of cheaper tickets , think again.

Email response takes 48 hours if you are lucky. If you get a response , it is usually standard reply with hardly any coherent answers.

We booked 2 Business Class tickets Auckland - Guangzhou - Amsterdam - Oslo RETURN , 11 August - 8 Sept.

On the return trip from Amsterdam to Guangzhou , we were downgraded from business class to economy. We didn’t find out until we checked in at the airport. The airline said that they have a problem with the plane which was scheduled. So they have to use a smaller plane, which has fewer business class seats.

We were given a letter stating that we should pass on the letter to our travel agent, which is EXPEDIA, to claim the refund from the airline.

So we sent the letter to EXPEDIA. We got the standard robotic email replies - we will call you in 24 or 48 hours, which they never did ( they claimed they call, but there is no notification on my phone of calls). Finally, after a month, an email from Expedia to say that the airline had responded saying that they won’t refund because the ticket status is “USED”... and that we have used their services. The services here was the economy seat and food.

How ridiculous is that . Of course the ticket is USED ! The airline put us on the plane, in the economy seats because they have got a problem with their scheduled plane !

Finally a call from Expedia ( after I told them I will take them to Commerce Commission, Disputes Tribunal, and expose this thru social media). Expedia said that they will offer a laughable $xxx as a gesture of goodwill . I declined the offer as it was ridiculous amount.

I intend to pursue the refund thru every means and Avenue .

So if anybody is thinking of using China Southern Airline or Expedia, think twice. It is not worth the hassle, for a few dollars cheaper ticket.
